What are the Difference between Site Engineer and Supervisor?

Site engineer and site supervisors are the two different designation / authorities in the field of construction. Site engineer have different responsibilities than site supervisor. Most of people are confusing between these two terms. In this article the confusion will be clear.

Difference between Site Engineer and Supervisor

Site Engineer:

It is the part of site management team. Site engineer takes responsibility for security, safety of health and supervising materials and employee at site. He / she select or mark the boundary of site. Site engineer make sure designs are applied correctly and cooperate with main contractor, sub-contractors and site manager. the roles and responsibilities of a site engineer is not fix for every construction site. The changes of role and responsibilities are based on activities and conditions of the project. the site engineer should do their basic roles and responsibilities for the implementation and completion of the project.

Site supervisor:

Site engineer are able to clarify building plans and also show leadership, communication and problem solving skills. The duty and responsibility of site supervisor is to inspect the site of construction regularly, instruct the team of construction and also sub contractors.  

Difference between Site Engineer and site supervisor:

The difference between site engineer and site supervisor are given below:

4 Sit engineer is involved with design team, planning and manpower requirement. Supervisor is involved in site execution and site activity.
5 Site engineer duty is to record drawing, technical reports, site diary. Supervisor keep in close with members of their site team at all time
6 Site engineer responsibility is to run the projects with their team. Site supervisor responsibility is to supervise the manpower and specific task.
7 Site engineer instruct the supervisor to check the alignment of shuttering. Supervisor should check the alignment of shuttering he / she will make sure that the alignment is fine.
8 Site engineer is the example of driver in the car. Site supervisor is the example of engine in the car.
9 Sit engineer have responsibility to calculate the shuttering quantity which is required to the structural members for example beam, slab, column etc. Site supervisor have responsibility to deliver the required quantity of shuttering to the site at the earliest.
10 Sit engineer can do the duty or have ability to do the duty of supervisor. Site engineer is superior than supervisor. Site supervisor can’t do the duty of site engineer because for the post of site engineer, site supervisor should get few year experience.
11 Site engineer instruct the supervisor for the placement of bars in the structural member for example beam, slab, column etc. Site supervisor have responsibility to check the bars are placed as per instruction of site engineer.
12 Site engineer have responsibility to calculate the steel bars their shapes, dimension required to the structural member for example beam, slab, pile, foundation, column etc. Sit supervisor should deliver the steel bar to the site and also check the bar bender are ton the job.
13 Sit engineer responsibility is to calculate the materials for concrete (cement, sand and coarse aggregate )  Site supervisor responsibility is to deliver the materials of concrete (cement, sand and coarse aggregate )
14 Site engineer teach or give knowledge to the junior or trainee engineers. Site supervisor can’t teach or give that much knowledge to trainee or junior engineers just like site engineers can do.  
15 Site engineer responsibility is to calculate or numbers of labors to the construction work. Site supervisor responsibility is to supervising the labors.

The main objective of this article “Differences between site engineer and supervisor” is that Site engineer give instruction to the supervisor and he/she have responsibility to setting out the work. While Site supervisor obey the instruction of site engineer and oversee the operation or work.
